“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” — Proverbs 21:1

Praise the Lord, everyone! What a beautiful day to give thanks to our Heavenly Father. As Psalm 118:1 reminds us, He is good, and His mercy endures forever. Every breath we take is a gift—not by our own doing, but by His grace.

Today, I want to encourage you with this truth: Because Jesus lives, we can live forever. Through His victory, death is no longer a sting or a punishment; for the believer, it is simply a transition into His presence.

The Sovereign Hand

Our focus scripture tells us that God holds the hearts of kings. If God can guide the heart of the most powerful ruler on earth, He can certainly guide yours. We see this throughout Scripture—from the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart to demonstrate God’s power, to the softening of hearts to receive His grace.

The Lord doesn't just want our obedience; He desires our hearts. Like David, a man after God’s own heart, we are called to pursue Him until His light shines through us so brightly that others are drawn to the Father (Matthew 5:16). When we surrender, He performs a spiritual transplant: removing the "stony, stubborn heart" and giving us a "tender, responsive" one (Ezekiel 36:26).

A View from the ICU

As a nurse in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, I have seen the incredible fragility of the heart. It is a muscular marvel, beating roughly 100,000 times a day to nourish every cell in the body. When that beat stops, life ceases.

I distinctly remember a night after a patient had undergone open-heart surgery. Suddenly, her heart stopped. The surgeon happened to be in the unit and immediately performed an open-chest cardiac massage—manually pumping the heart to restore blood flow. Miraculously, she survived.

That moment was a vivid reminder of how precious the heart is. But it also served as a spiritual parallel: Without the Spirit of Christ flowing through us, we are walking around spiritually dead. Romans 8:9 tells us plainly that if we do not have His Spirit, we do not belong to Him.

A Total Surrender

Your heart belongs to the King of Glory. He has identified us as His own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as a "guarantee" of His promises (2 Corinthians 1:22). But this guarantee requires a total surrender—a process of repentance and following the biblical Plan of Salvation (Acts 2:38).

When we place our hearts in the King’s hands:

He provides Peace: A peace that guards our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7).
He provides Light: Flooding our hearts so we can understand our hope (Ephesians 1:18).
He provides Medicine: For a cheerful heart is good medicine for the body (Proverbs 17:22).

A Prayer for the Heart

Lord, we thank You for Your faithfulness. We repent of our sins and ask You to lead us back to our "first love." We surrender our hearts to You—the original Owner. Massage our spirits, turn our desires toward Your will, and protect us from the cares of this world. We recommit our hearts into Your care today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you haven't given your heart to the Lord, don't wait. Let Him anchor you. As David said, “Taste and see that the Lord is good!”
