The Heart Behind the Mission

Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, NY, Colette Atkinson is a leader deeply connected to her heritage. Coming from Jamaican descent, she grew up traveling yearly to Jamaica with her mother and sister—formative experiences that taught her to appreciate her parents' humble beginnings alongside the opportunities she was given as a born American. She established JD&L Mission International Corp with a single purpose: to provide hope to the lost, homeless, and hungry.

A Legacy of Service:

Colette’s drive to serve is a torch carried forward from her mother, Jennifer "Moy" Atkinson. A devoted Rotary Club member known for her generous hospitality and love of cooking for neighbors and coworkers, Moy instilled in her children the vital importance of giving back. After her mother's passing, Colette found clarity in her own life's purpose: "To Serve God by serving others." She founded JD&L Mission to honor this legacy and transform lives through the Word of God.

Walking by Faith:

Colette’s spiritual journey took a pivotal turn on January 11, 2015, when she was baptized at Triumphant Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Since transitioning to Faith Apostolic Ministry in 2020, she has actively served on the Pastoral Care, Shelter, and Prayer teams. Today, she leads JD&L Mission with the help of supportive volunteers, working to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the community and proving that God’s grace can transform any situation.

The Anchor Still Holds:

"A Founder’s Inspiration"

The heart of JD&L Mission International Corp is rooted in a profound personal journey of faith and resilience. While her mother, Jennifer "Moy" Atkinson, always modeled a life of service, it was during her final battle with an unexpected diagnosis that Colette witnessed the true power of a firm foundation in Jesus Christ.

Facing the Unknown:

In her book, The Anchor Still Holds, Colette shares the raw reality of navigating a path she never saw coming. She watched as her mother faced unpredictable twists, turns, and emotional highs and lows with unwavering grace. Even in the face of the unknown, her mother remained anchored in her faith—an example of spiritual strength that Colette now strives to share with the world.

Turning Pain into Purpose:

This season of trial solidified Colette’s God-given purpose: to be a source of hope for those navigating their own "unknowns," whether through hunger, homelessness, or spiritual lostness. Today, JD&L Mission stands as a testament to the fact that while life’s storms are inevitable, the anchor of Christ still holds. Through this ministry, Colette encourages others to build their lives on that same firm foundation, ensuring that no one has to face the unknown alone.
