"Stop running, or you’ll hurt yourself!"

Most of us heard this warning from our parents growing up. Back then, we didn’t always see the tripwire or the sharp corner ahead, but our parents did. They offered us their foresight to protect us from a danger we couldn't yet perceive.

In our spiritual lives, God does the exact same thing. He sees the storms before they form and the dead ends before we reach them. Today, if you feel a tug on your heart or a conviction in your spirit, the message is simple: It is time to S.T.O.P. running.

The Anatomy of Surrender: S.T.O.P.

To move forward with God, we must apply these four principles:

S – Submissive: Yielding our will to His perfect plan.
T – Teachable Spirit: Remaining open to correction and divine instruction.
O – Obedience: Taking the first step, even when we don’t see the whole staircase.
P – Patience: Trusting God’s timing over our own urgency.

The Jonah Lesson: You Can Run, but You Can’t Hide

In Jonah 1:3, we see a man who bought a ticket to Tarshish, hoping to sail away from the presence of the Lord. Jonah chose the "road to death" over the "road to life," but God’s mercy is relentless. He hurled a storm not to destroy Jonah, but to redirect him.

As Proverbs 15:3 reminds us, "The Lord is watching everywhere." We often resist what God wants to do within us because of fear or doubt. But like Jonah, we eventually find that running from God is much more exhausting than submitting to Him.

A New Beginning Awaits

Are you considering water baptism? Do you feel the Lord calling you to let go of the "old life" mentioned in 2 Corinthians 5:17? Perhaps you are afraid to take that action.

The "sweeter news" found in Psalm 103:11-14 is that God knows our frame; He remembers we are but dust. He isn't looking for perfection; He is looking for a sincere heart. He wants to remove your sins "as far as the east is from the west."

The Race Set Before Us

Many Israelites left Egypt but never reached the Promised Land because of disobedience. Don't let your "Tarshish" keep you from your "Nineveh." Whether it is pursuing a Bible study, seeking baptism, or simply surrendering a hidden fear, today is the day to turn around.

Don't run away from the Lord. Run into His presence. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and He is waiting there with open arms.
