“They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the animal... when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you.” — Exodus 12:7, 13

We are living in perilous times. All around us, the signs of the last days are evident, just as 2 Timothy 3:1 foretold. In such an era, there is one universal truth we must cling to: we all need a Savior, and His name is Jesus.

In the book of Exodus, we see God raising up Moses to deliver the children of Israel from Egyptian bondage. Though Moses was initially hesitant, his eventual obedience allowed him to witness the mighty hand of God. One of the most critical commands given was the slaughter of a "special lamb," whose blood was to be smeared over the doorframes of their homes.

The Blood as Our Shield

Jesus is that Lamb, slain for us so that we might receive the promise of the Holy Spirit. His shed blood is our ultimate protection. Exodus 12:13 tells us the blood was a "token"—a sign that caused destruction to pass over.

But this revelation goes deeper than a historical event; it speaks to our current lives. Our homes should be holy ground where the Lord delights to abide. When someone walks through your front door, they should feel a shift in the atmosphere—a sweet aroma of His glory. A lifestyle of daily prayer, worship, fasting, and thanksgiving is what "applies" that blood to our modern-day doorposts.

Where is the Watchman?

We must ask ourselves: Who is guarding the gate? To protect the atmosphere of our homes, we must be spiritually awake. We have to be intentional about what we allow to enter through our eyes and ears.

What is playing on the television or the radio?
What conversations are we entertaining?
Is the Word of God being spoken in the hallways?

As Matthew 4:4 reminds us, we cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. We should "eat" the Word in the morning, sing the Word as we move through our rooms, and offer thanks at all times.

Worship Over Worry

The enemy’s strategy is to get us to focus on our problems rather than our Provider. He wants us to murmur and complain, just as the Israelites did when they felt trapped by Pharaoh’s army. Fear is a crippler, but worship is a deliverer.

We are His temple, and while His presence must abide within us, His blood should also be spiritually smeared across the places where we live. Because of Moses’ obedience, he could boldly tell the people: “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD... the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more forever” (Exodus 14:13).

Let us submit to the Word today. Remember: Obedience is better than sacrifice. When we walk in obedience, He covers us from every danger. Jesus’ blood is the only remedy for the times we are living in.

A Prayer to the Lamb

Precious Lamb of God, Today, we surrender all to You. We recognize that we are but clay in Your hands, desiring to be molded according to Your will. Keep us under the shadow of Your wings. Your Word promises that if we abide in You, You will abide in us.

Write Your Word across the tablets of our hearts so that when temptation comes, we can resist the enemy and watch him flee. We thank You for Your Word that brings life. As David said, we "taste and see" that You are good. May we experience Your presence every day of our lives. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
