“Making Jesus our 1st priority”

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

Matthew 26:55-56

“In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled”.

The life and ministry of Jesus Christ can be found in the first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. If we want to learn about things Jesus said and did, we can turn to these four Gospels. As Jesus walked and talked with His disciples, He revealed Himself to them and taught them. A Vital part of Jesus’ mission was to die for our sins on the cross and through repentance and faith in Him, opens the way for us to experience eternal life. The Apostle Peter gives us the plan of salvation in Acts 2:38, where about three thousand souls received the gift of salvation.

Matthew 26- gives the detail of Jesus being betrayed and arrested, which He foretold His disciples what would happen so the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. We see His disciples that He loved and cherished in the toughest time of His ministry forsake him. From a human perspective, can you imagine His pain? The feeling of being betrayed, neglected, left for dead? But this happened that the scriptures might be fulfilled. What is happening in your life, that God’s plans can be fulfilled? What is your sacrifice today?

We all were created in His image to fulfill a mission on this earth. It’s not an accident that you and I are here. 1 Peter 2:9 declares “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”. We were called that we can be a light house for Jesus. However, many times the things of this world tend to pull us away from making Jesus our 1st priority. Let us take the time to meditate on the Word of God.

We are living in a world that we make plans to go to work, school, events, our daily activities and many more. But we must take the time every day to put God 1st. The same way, His disciples forsook him and fled is the same way we at times forsake him by putting other things 1st before the Lord. We must strive to seek Him first in our daily lives so his true purpose in our lives can be fulfilled. The Lord told Jeremiah the prophet, “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5). This week, let us take the time to meditate upon this word and prioritize our daily lives that Jesus will always be our 1st priority. Let’s not forsake the only true and living God, Jesus, who came to die for you and me.

Dear Jesus,

We surrender our lives to you, and we ask that you forgive us of our sins. We worship you alone and give you all the glory. For you are our reason for living. Thank you for making the perfect sacrifice for all humanity to have everlasting life in you. We pray that in everything we do from the rising of the sun to the going down, we will make you our 1st priority. We ask that you change our perspective and set our minds on the things above and not on earthly things (Colossian 3:2). Transform us by your Word. Be a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. Keep us in your perfect peace and direct our steps always we pray, in Jesus’ name’. Amen

Amen. Was moved by this post. We so often take Jesus for granted and less important in our lives , especially when things are going good. But he’s always there for us, through the good and the bad, but we always fail to realize that. We are always his priority so let’s make him ours.
